Is this an ancestor we can be proud of?
John Hawkins was a privateer (we would call him a pirate) and a favorite of Henry VIII. As a rear admiral, he helped the British defeat the Spanish Armada. He was also one of the first slave traders who transported Africans to be enslaved in England and established the slave triangle used for the next 300 years. He was our 1st cousin 14X removed in the Knowlton line of our family. Link to his biography to read his story.

Bonnie EastonHi! I am a Jones cousin, daughter of Evelyn Jones Easton. Since retiring as a reference librarian after 20 years, I have become a genealogy addict. Our ancestors want to tell us their stories.
